There is a certain kind of person for whom “The West Wing” was dramatic television at its finest. It featured sharp, brainy, political dialogue with a cast walking around the White House outwitting one another—not outdoing the other’s wits, but simply being wittier.

We are venturing into very dangerous territory. The utter failure of leadership and the disgraceful disregard of our laws is leading some to take matters into their own hands. Others will follow. They will have no choice. The moral universe will demand it.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s not as if the news of the day doesn’t already fill us with dire premonitions. Doomsday scenarios are no longer the stuff of science fiction. Hand-wringing has been elevated to an Olympic sport.

“Bring Them Home!” As slogans go, that’s a pretty good one.

Perhaps I heard it wrong. But I could swear that President Joe Biden just delivered a televised address at the White House about the war in Gaza. (Note, no matter how loud it is shouted by well-meaning ignorant people, or Jew-haters who side with savages, there is no “genocide” in Gaza.)
