For those who enjoy keeping score of such matters (I, surely, am not one of them), there seemed to be a lot of Jewish Americans in President Donald Trump’s administration — especially for someone who at least half the nation believed was the second coming of Hitler. And these high-level appointments were separate from those who worked on the “Deal of the Century.”

It’s remarkable how even good news and a sense of resolution can still leave everything so unsettled. For Trump-haters everywhere — and there is no shortage of them — Joe Biden’s evident victory led to all sorts of socially-distanced celebrations, from honking car horns to clanging pots on rooftops.

Talk of this being the most important election in our lifetime is no exaggeration. Just consider all that is not well in America. A worsening plague was under control until it wasn’t. Science and politics continue to diverge with competing priorities. The election is as much a referendum on mask-wearing as it is about the economy and America’s standing in the world — a world, by the way, with its own COVID-19 anxieties.
